Peri-operative VSM Event

The challenge:

The peri-operative patient flow at Center City Jefferson was in need of realignment. Because of a poorly designed system of patient flow, there was always a queue for post-operative patient transport that backed up the PACU, eventually shutting down the OR’s and even the ED. There was miscommunication between staff and departments as to what the main problems were that were causing this. The department called us in to do research to prepare for and plan a VSM* event that would bring all those clinicians together for a design-thinking exercise to find solutions together.

The research:

Our team spent a few weeks conducting a research sprint, analyzing quantitative data and conducting qualitative research by speaking with patients and staff.
